My first encounter with yoga began after more than 10 years of practicing Christian Mediation, specifically Centering Prayer. I realized that I need to integrate my physical, psychological and spiritual dimension in order to continue my development and growth as a human being.

I began searching for a place where I may be able to learn yoga and found out that all the classes were physical oriented.  I learn the basics and noticed a big effect in healing my headaches and back problems. Little by little, I began to notice deeper effects in my spiritual life too. At that moment, I decided to take yoga studies in order to understand what I was doing and what was happening to me with the different practices that I was learning.

I have been immersed and drawn to Bihar School of Yoga/Satyananda Yoga because  use practices in a traditional way, asanas (poses) to balance the body and mind through the physical body, pranayama (using the breath, expansion of life force) to work on the energy body (equated with Ki or Chi in other systems), Pratyahara practices such as shavasana, yoga nidra and meditation to

calm and focus the mind. Tensions, toxins, impurities can be removed with these practices. It also takes a broader outlook by teaching and encouraging yogic lifestyles, not only for renunciate but also for those living in society and lay practitioners.

This System of yoga (Satyanada) is not the practice of Pantajali Yoga sutras.  Actually you are practicing an integral system that brings together a little bit of Patanjali, some of the psychological elements of Patanjali and mainly Tantra and a little form of  Vedanta, and different forms Yogas all combined; Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Krija Yoga,  Jana Yoga, and a little of  Raja Yoga.

Satyananda Yoga system help understand the goal of yoga and  why are you practicing; what is possible for humanity and what we can achieve.

Through the Yoga Academy of North America  I was able to get a solid foundation. Right now I held a Yoga Alliance certification, RYS 500 and a Satyananda Yoga Acreditation Level 2 (SYA-L2).
